This two part documentary was made in 1985 in Brisbane, Australia. It is about the impact of Expo 88 on the suburb of South Brisbane and the battlers who lived there. It was shot and edited on Super 8 film by Stephen Stockwell. Working with Super 8 audio was particularly difficult which is the only excuse he offers for the tragic sound quality. Expo 88 was an historic juncture for Brisbane. It was foisted on the people by the conservative Bjelke-Petersen government but it opened Brisbane to the world and there has only been two years of conservative government since. Expo 88 is now seen as a force for good but nevertheless, it could have been achieved with much more sympathy for the architecture and environment of the space and much, much more concern for the people who lived there.
