About Galerie Shangri-Lah

Galerie Shangri Lah is to be a space to look at interesting things, be part of a quirky community and broaden your mind in regards to what art and culture is. Galerie Shangri-Lah is THE community art space in Newcastle.

It’s a space to see both traditional and modern ideas of what art can be, celebrate Newcastle’s culture via local Hunter artists and be accessible to both established, emerging and student artists.  It also caters to the more timid side of budding artists by offering workshops in various mediums of arts and crafts, studio artist floor talk and small tutorial classes of drawing techniques.  Once a month, a ticketed event (adhering to COVID restrictions) will be held showcasing performance and music artists.

Our mission

The mission of Galerie Shangri-Lah is to enrich cultural experiences in Newcastle, the Hunter and beyond with the support of artists of any experience level in their practice. We would provide opportunities to present, experience, discuss and sell artworks in our gallery as well as eventually through online channels. Each year, our program will feature a dynamic blend of artist proposed and curated exhibitions, workshops and events.
