Upside Up | An exhibition of new print-based works by Sheryl J Burchill, Kassanda Savage, Ruth Saveka, Heather Tait and Kay Williams, and is presented at NorthSite Contemporary Arts (Bulmba-ja Arts Centre, 96 Abbott St, Cairns) | 02 Nov 2021 to 29 Jan 2022
Dear Paul,
Caroline Phillips, W.A.R, suggested your ARI Remix platform as an avenue for promotion and archive of a project that I coordinated for InkMasters Cairns and that culminated in an exhibition at NorthSite Contemporary Arts (current to 29 Jan 22).
If this is appropriate, here is some information about the project and the exhibition, both titled Upside Up.
InkMasters delivered the 34-week Upside Up program during 2021, providing access to workshop facilities, studio time, quality materials and tailored mentoring in print media for a group of local emerging Indigenous artists. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists who had some prior post-secondary art education but lacked access to making space and facilities to foster their interest in print media were inducted into the program where they worked with mentors Hannah Parker, Theo Tremblay and Justin Majid. The artists had the opportunity to explore and gain confidence in a range of fine art print media – drypoint, etching, vinylcut, screenprinting, stone lithography and monotype – and were nurtured towards the creation of work for public exhibition.
The exhibition of new print-based works by Sheryl J Burchill, Kassanda Savage, Ruth Saveka, Heather Tait and Kay Williams, and is presented at NorthSite Contemporary Arts (Bulmba-ja Arts Centre, 96 Abbott St, Cairns), 02 Nov 21 to 29 Jan 22.
The project was made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund which supports the arts in regional and remote Australia.
